Making a Human Torso from Life – Figurative Sculpture
This class is a step-by-step demonstration of the techniques involved in sculpt¬ing the human figure in water-based clay. With individualized instruction, each student will create a 15” to 18” undraped figure sculpture working from a live model. Students will learn visible anatomy and proportions, and how to use the shape and the planes of the body to obtain a general likeness and also study different ways of modeling the hands, arms, legs and feet. Surface finishing techniques will also be covered, as well as basic design issues involved in designing a figure sculpture, and how to prepare it for firing or molding, and different mounting options. Previous completion of Introduction to Figurative Sculpture is recommended.

Sculpting a Human Portrait from Life
The class is a step-by-step demonstration of the techniques involved in sculpting the human head in water-based clay. With individualized instruction, students will create with two sculptures: an écorché of the human head and neck and a nuanced portrait of a live model. No previous experience is required. Basic anatomy and proportions of the head, facial expressions, ages and racial differences will be covered.
